Cheek Biting Disorder

Cheek biting disorder or morsicatio buccarum (mor-sih-kay-shee-oh buck-kah-rum) is characterised by irritation or injury to the lining of the inside of the cheek, caused by repetitive chewing, biting or nibbling. This may lead to sores, ulcers, or rough patches on the inside of your mouth.

Tongue Biting Disorder

Tongue biting disorder or morsicatio linguaram (mor-sih-kay-shee-oh-ling-guh-ruhm)is the chewing or biting of the tongue. This excessive pressure on the tongue, using the teeth, can result in injuries on the tongue, tissue damage and potential pain.

Lip Biting Disorder

Lip biting disorder or morsicatio labiorum (mor-sih-kay-shee-oh-lay-bee-ohr-uhm) is the repetitive chewing, biting, or nibbling of the lips. This may cause painful sores on the bitten areas, bleeding, redness and inflammation or irregular texture of the skin. The condition may worsen due to the open wounds on the skin.

Nose Picking Disorder

Nose picking disorder or rhinotillexomania (ry-no-ti-lex-uh-may-nee-uh) is the compulsive picking of the nose. The picking of nasal mucus is a common behaviour; however, it can become a BFRB when the person is unable to stop the behaviour despite it causing distress and damage to the lining of the nose.

Mucus Fishing Disorder

Mucus Fishing is the repetitive removal of mucus from the eyes. This may lead to eye redness, irritation, infections, and increased mucus production. Sometimes this behaviour occurs in response to allergies or dry eyes, but becomes a BFRB when it recurs beyond the original cause and is difficult to stop.
